A question, which hints
a few disturbances about the sight of you, if not towards how perfect you could
be. As impolite as that sounded; management
students, trainees and executives have collectively missed out on the amusing
sight of how desperately they attempt to interact formally within the
formal atmosphere, and how this attempt
is humorously unmasked the moment they walk out of these situational obligations,
yet in sight of all the same people who are now ever ready to stamp their judgments, which
in turn are hard to erase.
The answer to your elevation in the corporate sector or platinum
recognition in the educational training, lies beyond what the institution asks
you to routinely perform and submit.
Apart from your performance you claim it being unquestionably up to the
mark, you possibly missed a few things about yourself that made you appear to
your seniors like a professional casino thief they hired but still in the rags
of a petty robber.
Some lesser known etiquettes? Self Presentation?
Kick-starting the advisory list with the most peculiar habit
to question;
Do not exchange a handshake inside a loo nor outside it. Limit
your verbal interactions in this room you are all assigned to do your routine tasks,
biological or grooming, discreetly. These moves, in turn, amusingly make or
break your career when you step in the washroom with your senior officials, the possibility
of which is not so rare
Folding one’s legs and taking a seat is not very
questionable an act. But you would not want to dedicate the dirt-rich soles of
your shoes to your colleagues and seniors when they sit beside you, which casts
an impression of you deeming your superiority over them all, as
well as an unintended insult.
Do you twist your lips when you make a little contradicting, funny
or sarcastic statement? Or smirk? Make sure these facial moves are not up to exaggerated
levels, which would definitely cast the perception on the other person to assume
these statements are the most that your intellect could deliver.
Ignore the advice of smiling constantly while you do absolutely anything. There is an advisable expression for every moment. A subtle smile of wisdom, a wide smile of
satisfaction to reflect, a straight face of being neutral and unbiased, a mild
smirk in a talk to belittle something, they have all got their right moment to be
expressed or played with, especially when addressing an unpredictable or
unstable client.
How could we survive in a world of billion people without
listening to them speaking things beyond our reach of thought processing and
perceptions? In fact, a diversity of perception with a mutual acceptance of listening to
one another is what keeps a marketing team pitch-perfect and profitable to what
they were hired for! Listening goes beyond accepting what people say. It is also
about accepting what your environment whispers. This is why; an argument is
futile without listening or showing that you do, to put your point across as a
well-informed one. Always find a path to negotiate!
It is never too late.
