Mukul Chopra moves to Transaction Solutions International, as CHRO

Chopra was earlier CHRO, ConveGenius. After serving as chief human resources officer (CHRO) at ConveGenius for more than two and a half years, Mukul Chopra has now joined Transaction Solutions International (TSI) as CHRO. An engineering graduate from Panjab Engineering College, Chopra completed an MBA in human resources from Panjab University, in 1996 after working as an engineer with Jindal Strips for two years. Armed with an MBA, he joined Essar Telecom as a senior executive in May of 1996. Three years later, he moved to Airtel as manager, where he stayed on for three years. In June of 2002, he was appointed circle head-HR, Reliance Infocomm. Four years into this role, he took up the position of assistant vice president, Reliance Retail. His next stop was Huawei, in January of 2009, as head-HR, global technical sales, India branch. He helped set up the Indian arm for global technical sales to support Huawei technical sales operations globally.

Quest Global appoints Peter Koo as chief leadership officer.

Koo will oversee the leadership-development system to fuel succession planning and people development. Quest Global, the global engineering services firm, has appointed Peter Koo as chief leadership officer. Koo will be tasked with overseeing the leadership- development system, which will fuel succession planning and people development. Among other strategic priorities, Koo will be responsible for creating a leadership-development engine, attracting talented leaders, advancing diversity, equity and inclusion and strengthening workforce analytics. Koo moves from Egon Zehnder, where he spent over 19 years, with his last-held position being that of partner, financial services practice group, global head of asset management practice.

Abani Kant Jha appointed CFO, Saatvik Solar

Jha has been co-chairman, ASSOCHAM, since April 2024. Saatvik Solar, the Indian solar PV module manufacturer has roped in Abani Kant Jha as its new chief financial officer (CFO). Backed by more than 25 years of experience across diverse industries, Jha will help bolster Saatvik Solar’s financial leadership and drive its ambitious growth plans. His versatile career spans critical sectors including telecom, retail, technology, and industrial manufacturing. Jha was formerly group chief financial officer, Technology Company, working out of India, Singapore, Canada, Dubai and the US. For over three years, he guided the company through IPO preparations and helped it navigate intricate financial landscapes. An alumnus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Jha also holds an MBA from from Manipal GlobalNxt University. From 1994 to 1998, Jha worked as senior audit manager at Mazars in India. Four years later, he joined PCH Inc. as CFO and head commercial-global distribution business, working out of the US and India.

US manufacturer of EVs lays off 300 more after reducing 10% of workforce last year

To cut costs, Lion Electric will also reduce product, adopting a batch-size manufacturing approach. Lion Electric, the company whose electric trucks and school buses are popular in the US and Canada, is looking at streamlining operations and aligning costs with demand. As part of its endeavour to save about $25 million annually, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer is letting go 300 employees across the US and Canada, that is, 30 per cent of its workforce. Last year, the firm had trimmed its workforce by 10 per cent. The objective is to improve liquidity and progress faster towards profitability. Additionally, the company will also reduce production, considering the low demand for electric trucks. It will embrace a batch-size manufacturing model, that is, produce the vehicles only on receipt of order.

Salary delays at Byju’s despite new funding

Former employees have received a part of their salaries in February but nothing since, despite working until April. Byju’s recently argued before the National Companies Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) that Riju Raveendran, a director and brother of founder Byju Raveendran, infused Rs 2,600 crore into the company to sustain business operations and pay salaries to its 27,000 employees. Although this move helped BYJU’S avoid bankruptcy proceedings, employees are still awaiting the salaries that the funds were meant to cover. Several former employees, according to a DH report, revealed that they had not received their salaries for several months before leaving the company. Furthermore, the company still owed other dues, including gratuity payments.

Karnataka HC: Reinstate employee removed after maternity leave.

 

After conceiving her second child, Chandbi Baligar requested maternity leave, however, upon her return, she was informed that another person had taken her position. In a landmark judgment, the Karnataka High Court directed the state government to reinstate an outsourced female employee who was dismissed after taking maternity leave. The HC ordered that she continue working until a regular appointment is made. Chandbi Baligar from Hirehadagali in Vijayanagara district was hired as a contract accountant at Raitha Samparka Kendra (Kasaba) in Huvinahadagali in June 2014. Her employment persisted beyond the initial year despite changes in contractors, with the new agency continuing her salary payments without a fresh agreement.

Jindal Stainless launches 2nd MTech batch of its employees with IIT Bombay

This unique collaboration is expected to enhance efficiencies across all levels of the manufacturing process. Jindal Stainless has kicked off the second batch of its fully-sponsored two-year MTech programme in steel technology. The programme is in collaboration with the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. This unique collaboration is expected to enhance efficiencies across all levels of the manufacturing process and inspire innovative ideas for optimising the quality-cost-emissions mix.

TCS employees dedicated 87.1 learning hours in AI

The company has also evidenced its involvement in over 200 GenAI projects and the acquisition of new deals worth $13.2 billion. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has established a formidable presence in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, with employees dedicating an average of 87.1 learning hours in the fiscal year 2024 (FY24). This commitment is part of TCS’ broader strategy to enhance its capabilities in generative AI (GenAI). The company has evidenced its involvement in over 200 GenAI projects and the acquisition of new deals worth $13.2 billion. In an email to employees marking the beginning of FY2024-25, K Krithivasan, CEO, TCS, emphasised the company’s progress in building a world-class AI-ready workforce. The mail further highlighted the increase in average learning hours from 82.4 hours in FY23 to 87.1 hours in FY24. This growth spans all levels of the organisation, with senior employees also increasing their learning hours.

Skillible launches SAMBAV to revolutionise tech education in India

Skillible, a company in experiential learning for emerging technologies, has launched an innovative initiative called SAMBAV, short forb Skillible’s Academic Model for Business-To-Academic Ventures. The programme aims to revolutionise technical education by seamlessly integrating academia with industry needs, creating a workforce adept at applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. The step comes in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Education, Government of India. Skillible aims to upskill and reskill one million students and professionals in new-age technologies through this programme, ensuring they remain at the forefront of emerging trends and innovations.

Gurpreet Singh appointed head of human resources, Wiom

Petersen moves from Thermo Fisher Scientific, where she was VP-HR, laboratory chemicals. After a successful five-year long tenure at Thermo Fisher Scientific, Lori Petersen has joined Cipla has vice president-human resources. Having begun her professional journey in 2001, with MRINetwork, as research manager, Petersen comes with over two decades of experience. She served as talent acquisition specialist at CHEP from 2006 to 2008 before moving on to Rolls-Royce in June of 2008.

Anand Pillai appointed chief strategy officer & professor of practice, Christ University, Bangalore

Pillai moves from LogarithmHR, where he was director since September 2020. Anand Pillai has been appointed chief strategy officer and professor of practice, Christ University, Delhi NCR, Bangalore and Lavasa. He has to his credit an illustrious career spanning over 40 years in strategic planning and innovation. Having started his professional journey as a management trainee with DCM in 1982, Pillai has come a long way. From 1984 to 1987, he was area manager, Schlumberger JV with Tatas through NELCO. Three years later, he moved on to join Tata Consultancy Services, as major account manager, in 1986. For the next six years, he held various portfolios from Unix systems administrator to major account manager in Burroughs (which later became UNISYS). He also trained and got certified in several international programmes, which made him capable of coaching managers within the company.

Hero Vired ropes in Prakhar Kasar for CEO role

Kasar moves from MakeMyTrip where he was VP & business head MyBiz:Make My Trip for Work. Hero Vired has appointed Prakhar Kasar as its chief executive officer. Kasar has been brought on at a time when the learntech platform, which is a part of the Hero Group, is trying to expand its reach and impact in the online education space. Backed by over 16 years of experience, Kasar began his professional journey with Pepsico India, as management trainee, in 2008. Within a year, he was promoted to territory development manager. Two and a half years into this role, he was promoted again, to assistant brand manager. By 2014, he had become the brand manager-beverage innovation, based out of Gurgaon.

Periodic salary increments define permanent employment: HC

The Madhya Pradesh High Court also affirmed that the concept of a 'permanent job' extends beyond government employment. In a landmark ruling, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has clarified that the term “permanent job” for motor accident compensation claims includes more than just government servants. This decision broadens the scope for granting future prospects in such cases. The court emphasised that any job where the salary is periodically increased or receives annual increments qualifies as a permanent job. This decision came in response to an appeal seeking an enhancement of the compensation awarded by the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Bhopal.

State government extends HRA until June 2025.

 

Secretary (Finance) M Janaki issued the order on Monday, 29 July. he State government has announced an extension of the House Rent Allowance (HRA) at 24 per cent of basic pay, capped at Rs 25,000. It includes all employees of the Secretariat and heads of departments (HoDs), until June 2025. In January 2022, the government had implemented the 11th Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations. At that time, the HRA was revised to 24 per cent of basic pay with a maximum limit of Rs 25,000 for employees of the Secretariat and HoDs, effective from 1 January, 2022, to June 2024.

Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Merlyn Michael D'souza with Class-based activity of PGDM students on Group Dynamics with Jo-Hari window analysis in class of Organisational Behaviour

An activity that was conducted by a group of HR students in a lecture on Jo-Hari Window Analysis. The purpose of the activity was to demonstrate the group dynamics that a business manager brings to an organization. The activity consisted of the following steps:

  • Each participant listed 5 out of 56 adjectives what best describes them and their team members each.
  • Each participant wrote 5 qualities that they wish to disclose to the group on themselves. Also they received feedback on 5 qualities about themselves that the other team members wish to disclose to the given team member.
  • The participants then discussed their analysis and enlarged their 'Open windows' and increased self awareness through group interventions.
  • The participants then filled a Jo Hari Window Analysis Questionnaire and discovered what facet of the group persona they fit into like 'Open', 'Hidden', 'Unknown' and 'Blind'
